Supporting local services

March 11, 2008 at 2:57 pm · Filed under Our Community

There are already a great number of local services involving education, training, mentoring and start-up support. The Make Your Mark campaign aims to be a populist communications ‘front-end’ to light the initial spark of awareness or ambition that inspires young people to believe in their own entrepreneurial potential.

Make Your Mark inspires and informs young people of the opportunities that are available to them. Through connecting them to networks that support enterprise, we aim to encourage young people in Wakefield to take their ideas to the next level.

To ensure mpeople get involved with this excellent community based initiative and live mpeople’s own core values the Wakefield team have been working on “community” and applied for and been accepted as business mentors. We will each take an individual child aged 14 and work with them over the coming 2 years acting as mentor to them. Each child is on the “Aim Higher” monitoring assisting them to improve grades at school, life experiences, knowledge of industry, building relationships etc.

In addition to this Craig Storton has spent a hour running an “Interview Technique” mentoring scheme to year 11 at St John Fisher School – Dewsbury, preparing them for mock interviews which are held with Business seniors a few days later. It was clear when attending the interviews the teenagers had listened well and applied most of the ideas presented in the mentoring. These interview workshops will be held at 10 schools in Wakefield, Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Leeds.

Make Your Mark in Wakefield

March 11, 2008 at 2:57 pm · Filed under Our Community

Wakefield presents some great opportunities for young people looking to make their ideas happen.

Wakefield offers great community spirit, has senior figures who are willing to act as champions, and boasts enormous potential for economic growth.

Wakefield is one of four regional centres in England to be chosen to deliver the Make Your Mark campaign at the local level. This is a coup for the region and an unrivalled opportunity to show the rest of the country what is happening in locally.

In March 2007 Sir Digby Jones, UK Skills Envoy and former CBI director general, joined local MP Ed Balls and other leading local figures in publicly pledging support for the Make Your Mark in Wakefield campaign.

Competitions - Head in the Bucket Award!

March 11, 2008 at 2:52 pm · Filed under Competition of the Month

I have to say we have been given some excellent candidates for The Head in the Bucket Award. Here are just three of the stories and the winner for February.

1. Laura Hartley frantically rang Mazars last week to retrieve a deleted document she was working on. She was on the phone to poor Chris for several minutes explaining how important the document was and that he had to know a way to retrieve it before finally realising it had come through on an email and she still had it attached in her inbox!

2. During the recent swap over of Profile to Profile RPM last Tuesday evening, Samantha Whitehead was being very efficient and printed out signed for everyone in Blackburn office to say “do not switch on Profile unless told to do so”, as requested by Laura. But instead she wrote “do not switch on computers unless told to do so”. Danielle rang Samantha at 8.25am the next day to say “what’s wrong with the computers? I’ve been sat here since 8am waiting get on my computer” To which Samantha replied “I am sorry I was in a hurry and wrote “computer” instead of profile”. Danielle was not impressed to say the least!

3. On Monday 18th February it was one of the coldest days of the year reaching -6 C in some places in particular Huddersfield. Liz said the branch should buy a heater for the office. She found one in Argos which was duly purchased and set up. Paul set the clock and Jane had the heater in the back of the office. When the timer was set it didn’t work, so the team assumed it was set incorrectly and reset it for the day after. It still didn’t work! They finally discovered the heater was plugged into was Jane’s computer socket which she switches off each evening knocking off the timer! How many consultants does it take to put on the heating?

BUT THE WINNER IS JENNIE WOOD

Jennie Wood – was having a mature moment when attending the Profile RPM training two weeks ago. She went to the ladies washed her hands, put them under the “dryer” to dry rubbing them frantically when Anne Marie pointed out that the “dryer” was in fact the paper towel holder!!!!! Doooooohhhhhh – it’s this modern technology you know!

Congratulations Jennie who wins the Prestigious HEAD IN THE BUCKET AWARD - February

Receptionist jobs

In many respects the role of receptionist can be very similar to that of a customer service representative. That is providing the work environment is not a call center where only customer service reps are primarily employed. Similar to a customer service rep, the first person you see and/or make contact with in a company is the Receptionist.

The main role of a Receptionist is to deal with visitors and accommodating repeat customers. Another important role they have is to answer the phone and to be able to portray a positive image of the company. Other duties include some filing, keeping the reception area clean, and typing.
