Dr Kershaw’s Hospice Christmas Fayre

Mpeople Recruitment Volunteers at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice Christmas Fayre - By Sam Gaulter-Green

At Mpeople Recruitment, supporting the communities we serve is a core value. On Sunday, 17th November, we were proud to volunteer at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice Christmas Fayre, a key fundraising event for a charity that means so much to the Oldham area. Despite the less-than-ideal weather, the day was a fantastic reminder of the power of community and collective effort.

Dr Kershaw’s Hospice provides crucial care for individuals with life-limiting illnesses. Their services include an inpatient unit offering compassionate end-of-life care, a wellbeing centre that hosts support and activity groups, and a Christie’s Cancer Unit, delivering specialist treatment locally. While we haven’t experienced their services personally, it’s clear from the community’s support just how vital they are to so many families in Oldham.

The Fayre was a lively, festive event that drew hundreds of attendees despite the torrential rain and freezing temperatures. It was inspiring to see so many people braving the weather to support the hospice. Representing Mpeople Recruitment, I was joined by David Barraclough, Ana Pankowski, and even a few family members – including Harvey, who was nicknamed “mini David” for the day.

Our team helped with a variety of tasks, including running the Toy Stall, managing the Prize Exchange, and supervising the inflatable snow globe bouncy castle. All of these were outdoor roles, and while the cold was challenging, the energy and enthusiasm of the visitors kept us motivated. Seeing families enjoying themselves, children bouncing in the snow globe, and people eagerly participating in the stalls was heartwarming and made every chilly moment worthwhile.

Thanks to the dedication of the organisers, volunteers, and the incredible community turnout, the Fayre raised an impressive £7,699.33! Knowing that this amount will go towards supporting the hospice’s invaluable work made all our efforts on the day feel incredibly rewarding.

A huge thank you goes to Ana, David, and Harvey for their hard work and unwavering good spirits throughout the day. It was a pleasure to see the Mpeople team stepping up to help such a worthy cause, and it’s events like these that remind us of the importance of giving back. Supporting Dr Kershaw’s Hospice is just one of the ways we aim to make a positive impact in the communities we serve.

While we may jokingly insist on an indoor assignment next time, we’re all proud to have been part of such a special event. Dr Kershaw’s Hospice is a lifeline for many families in Oldham, and the success of the Fayre reflects the strength and generosity of the local community.
